my jeep wont start?

i have a 1990 jeep yj 6cyl 5 spd the gauges will come on when key is on but when turn key to start gauges go back down and there is nothing not even turning over its like its dead
head lights blinker and brake lights dont even come on
what do you think problem is
 
test the battery maybe it has eough juice to turn on the guages but not the car test it and jump it. if it starts keep reving the engine so it stays on. after your alternater circulates the power it should recharg your battery
