my iphone 3gs iSO4.1 is not recognised on itunes 10.1?

Hi there, someone please help.

How come my iphone 3gs iOS4.1 is not recognised on my itunes version 10.1.
It doesnt show my phone is connected.

itunes says there is an update avail 4.2.

it recognises my other iphone with iSO3.1.3 but not the iSO4.1
