My internet on my Sony Laptop is loading videos way to slow.. than before?

Ever since the day i put a password on my wifi my internet on my laptop is slow..
and it disconnects all the time & is unable to connect sometimes..

does it have to do with the files or programs i have on my laptop or the fact that my battery has to be replaced..

Why why why?
