Okay, I have an iMac G3 slot loader, and I’ve been trying to update it to Mac OS X Tiger. I have the original Mac OS 9 install CDs, I just got done installing a new HD in my iMac, and installed Mac OS 9, and I read you need to update the firmware to 9.2 or you’ll run into a mess trouble. Which I preceded on doing, but it hasn’t been all that easy. I updated to 9.1 and then the machine had troubles booting, sometimes it wouldn’t make it at the initial boot screen, and when it did, I would have system failure messages that would tell me to hold down Shift on the next boot to cancel Extensions.
I had a hell of a time trying to get it to boot, but eventually it did, and I installed firmware 9.2, and rebooted. It booted just fine this time, I was thrilled! So I put in the Mac OS X Tiger install disk 1, and it began to build the file on my desktop, and then locked up (not surprised). So I rebooted, now it won’t boot from the HD, and acts as if the HD is damaged! Just like the last time I updated to firmware 9.2! That’s why I replaced the HD before, and now I’m frustrated. What’s going on with my machine? Why do the updates make my iMac so unstable?
