The economy is getting so bad and I am scared. My husband and I don't see eye to eye on this. Give your views please.
We have a two year old daughter and no direct job opportunities when my husband gets out. It will kind of like starting over again. He is an e-5 and has 6 years in.
I feel it is both of of our decision because we are a family.
Only he is in the military.

I think looking at his complaints is very important, but the harsh reality is that the economy is absolutely in shambles, and unless he has a written, signed and sealed job offer in his hands, his best bet at financial security is toughing thing out in the military for at least a couple more years. Does it suck? Yes. But a solid, dependable paycheck is something that millions of Americans can't count on anymore, and benefits? Forget it. Could he re-class to a different MOS that he would enjoy more, or could he move to a different base and have a chance to be with some different folks?

This is a decision I would weigh very, very carefully. There are many drawbacks to being in the military, yes, but having a secure paycheck, good benefits, and funding for college education is something that we should all be incredibly grateful for, and he would be very hard-pressed to find something similar in this economy right now, unless he wants to work for the NGA, FBI, CIA, State Department, Border Patrol, or other gov't organizations (or perhaps as a contractor in Iraq or Afghanistan).

I think it would be a bad idea, unless he's trained in a very technical field where it may be easy for him to find a decent paying job.

If the government shuts down in 3 hours you won't get a military check anyway. And staying in the military because you're afraid you won't get a job is a horrible way to think. We're currently fighting 3 wars. The military is the last place I would want to be right now. And most importantly, why would it be up to you if your husband stays in the military or not. That's a pretty big decision, and it should be made by him.
