You should either take it to the kennel or pay a neighborhood teenager to pet sit for a while. You need to keep your sanity but your mother is hurting and I'm sure she loves her dog. Let her know what you are doing and why. Just check on it every so often, I'm sure if you were in her position you would want your pet taken care of .

I think that since your husband volunteered, he's responsible for it. There are solutions to your problems:

Noise: ear plugs are cheap. Get the foam kind for less than a dollar per pair. You can find them in the ear care aisle of the pharmacy.

Pee and poop: Not your problem. Husband's problem. He's responsible, remember?

PS - You might get better, more practical answers to this if you asked it in the Pets category. I recommend it, because pet lovers (which describes most of the people who frequent that category) will want to give you good advice about the dog.

I think you should keep the dog and just be the better person. Your MIL has enough to worry about so knowing her dog is in good hands is a load off her mind. It is temporary and I'm sure appreciated.

She is in bad shape with a broken leg and broken rod in her leg. She has no idea when she will get out of the hospital but it could be weeks. the dog cries and barks all night no matter what we try. We are literally getting no sleep at all. It pees and poops in my floor no matter how often i take it outside. I want him to tell her we can't keep it but he insists that we can't do that. He has 2 brothers (neither with families who never lift a hand for anything). I think my husband should insist that one of them keep the dog. one of them lives with his mother for goodness sake. I have a 20 month old baby and i don't have time for this. what do u think?

Have the dog kenneled at your local vet or kennel until right before your mother in law gets out of the hospital. i work for a clinic and it cost roughly around 10 dollars a night and they feed and take care of the pet. I would check into it. she dosent even have to know.

take it to someone that will board it. pay for it it will be spendy (25bucks a day) but you wont have to deal with the dog.

there are also some rescues that do emergency boarding for people that cant afford it (like when your in teh hospital or your house burns down)

try looking into that.
