My Honda Civic is whining after going through water... Why?

The other day we had a pretty serious down pour and I was driving my 1998 Honda Civic. I went through a pretty deep pool of water not knowing that it was a little too deep. Since then my engine has been whining pretty bad as the RPM's go up. Any ideas what it might be? Hopefully it's just something minor and not super expensive to fix. I checked the oil and that's fine. It's doesn't sound like a regular belt whine to me. Thanks,

We just did this at work. Check all the belt pullys for rust, If you find rust, spray some WD-40 on the pully while the car is idleing. Once it works it self in the sound should go away.
