My hamster some times stops and grooms himself when in his ball, what does this mean?

He has a clear plastic ball
He tends to do it once he's knocked into a wall or is near a wall although my room isn't hugh so that may be coincidence.
If I move him back into the centre of the room he stops doing it.
By grooming, he tends to wash his face and his ears more than his body.

He's just having a wash, perhaps clean his ball, maybe he thinks it's dirty?

He could also be getting his scent onto areas he's been. There's nothing to be worried about.

He just likes keeping it clean. I suppose doing in the middle of the room is a bit more scary for him, he has to be more alert and aware of his surroundings.

It means hes grooming himself in privacy; he is distracted while grooming so prefers to do it out of plain sight (in his mind anyway) as to not be taken by a predator by surprise.

urm it doesn't mean anything my mice do it now and then, but hamsters want to stay Clean, they spend most of there life cleaning themselves, and that's why mice are one of the most cleanest animal in the world because they clean themselves.
