For me it was the Boxcar Children all the way. I didn't even try anything else except that one time I read a nancy drew book just to see what my friend was so obsessed with. But man...I think I read pretty much every Boxcar Children book out there.
....looking back, I don't even know why. Their mysteries weren't that great, even when I was young and their characters were blah.
