that make her a lodger? Hi there
I am an owner-occupier of a flat and have a spare room. My friend who is coming back to the UK to finish her final year in University wants to come and live with me.
Thing is I want to let her stay for free since she's my friend. I want to know - by letting her stay with me for free, does that make her a lodger?
My leasehold flat does have a restrictive covenant saying I cannot have a "lodger or a paying guest" so I am a bit concerned even by letting her stay for free makes her a lodger since I don't want to breach the covenant.
Secondly, if she does move in with me (and not pay me any rent), do i still have to notify the council? My friend will be a student anyway and exempt from council tax so I don't know if I have to let the council know or not.
Thanks!
