my ford explorer won't fill up with gas?

I know that the gas tank is empty ( i think) but it just wont let the gas go in fast enough so the gas station guy said it wont fill up. So i went and got some gas and fill it up with about 2 gallons and it choked at first but the gas when in fine. What could be the problem?
The thing is that i just bought this truck for a very cheap price since my other car broke down, it was an desperate act lol. I will try checking the vent then, Thanks everyone.
No i havent tried another gas station but i will tomorrow after work.

Yeah well, you must have bent or plugged the filler neck or vent lines

One of the old childish pranks is coming back around. Sounds like someone closed off your vent hose. Look under the car near the gas filler for a rubber hose that is hanging down. See if someone has pushed a golf tee into the open end.

On the top side of the fuel tank there's a vent. It's either clogged or not installed correctly.
