Ok, heres the deal, im 28 years old not sure if that means anything but today I was showing off for my girlfriend and decided to show her I can slam dunk a basketball. I take off and in mid air, i feel my right side pop. By the time I landed I was in complete pain, Mainly my butt....right cheek...........a few seconRAB later my right leg started feeling funny. This was 4 hours ago and my butt and lower back are in pain. More of a throbbing pain but its still hurts like hell, anytime I move, bend down or even walk. The pain in my leg has gone but my butt and back are on fire right now. I dont know if I pulled a glute or hurt my siatic nerve. I dont know if i should rest it or go to the hospital. I really dont wanna go to the hospital because I lost my job last week and as of now have no medical insurance? I just really wanna know whats up with my back.

You really need to have someone take a look at your back. Do you have an urgent care center? They are usually alot cheaper than ER visits. It kind of sounRAB like a sciatic nerve issue but and this is a big but you could have done something to a disc. Until you get to the doctor I would use a heating pad and try some ibuprofen for pain. This of course is my non-medical opinion but I am a long term back pain veteran and this is what I used to do.

I would put ice on it -- 15-20 minutes every hour through the night.

I would give it a while and see how it feels. Anything they do for you in the ER will be very expensive. They will probably want to run an MRI, which could run into the thousanRAB....I imagine they would just give you a shot of morphine or some strong pain killer and tell you to make an appointment with a back specialist.

Hopefully you've just pulled a muscle or stretched a nerve.

If it's a muscle issue, you need some heat on it. Do you have a heating pad? If not, a quick way to get heat to it is hot soak in the tub, or shower, and also microwaving a damp towel for a short time (it gets hot fast), then put a dry towel under/over it and place on your lower back and buttock area a couple of times.

Stay on the ibuprofen.

If you arent any better in a few days, then see a doctor.

Hi,

How are you doing today?

From everything I have been told and read, after a muscle injury, ice is used for the first 48 hours. The ice slows down the flow of blood, which reduces the amount of swelling and inflammation.

You just have to be careful that you don't leave it on longer than 20 minutes at a time. You don't want to freeze the nerve, which can lead to bigger problems.

I kept taken the Ibuprofren and I iced my back really good and the pain in my butt has gone away. My back only hurts when I move in certain positions and when I bend over or bend back but the pain is nothing like it was yesterday. The pain has reduced 10fold. Thanks for the help everyone, im sure with resting my back an taking the Ibuprofren I should be fine in no time, and if im not, i will let you guys know.
