My flash on my Canon rebel XS won't pop up, what to do?

whenever I try to take a photo that requires flash, it attempts to open the flash 3 times, then tells me it has been obstructed, and I need to turn the camera off and on again.
after doing this multiple times, it still hasn't worked.

What do I do? :|
 
Call Canon and ask their tech support. I have a Canon Rebel XS and that's the first thing I would do because I wouldn't want to mess up my camera.
