My fish tank's heater started making a loud vibrating noise?

This is just what I need, I think my (still fairly new) heater is broken!

A couple of days ago I set up a second filter in my fish tank. This morning I woke up to a loud vibrating noise. I figured it was the new filter. I was running late (accidentally slept in!) and all the fish were accounted for, so I let it go til I got home.

So I finally just got to examine the tank. I unplugged both filters, and the noise continued. Odd. After playing with the plugs I discovered the culprit - it's my heater.

I have a Tetra 2-15. It is towards the bottom of the tank, above the gravel, running parallel to the bottom but not touching. It's only a couple of months old. It is making a loud vibrating noise. I have one of those sticky tank thermometers on the outside of the tank. It always averages 76-78 degrees. At the moment both the 78 and 80 degrees temperatures areas are colored. So the temp's gone up slightly over about a I'm guessing 16 hour period.

I left it unplugged once I realized the heater was the culprit and it's cooling down so I can take a look. Would you try wiping it off really good and replugging it in? Could some food or something be caught somewhere making it make the noise? Could the current of the second filter have something to do with it? Although the heater was always close to my original filter, and still is - the second filter's all the way on the other side of the tank.

Or is it just toast?
