OK, About a week ago, my snail died. then, yesterday, both of my pictus catfish died at the same time. They both looked like maybe they were attacked. Their wiskers were all bent and chewed, When I went to get them out, I noticed one of my small red sharks died. Now my molly looks like it may have the shimmies. My mom believes that my blue crawdad whom I have had for 3 months attacked the catfish, but both? Causing them to die the same day? I dont know. I keep seeing that I need to add salt to my water but that will kill my crawdad. There are no spots. I dont think it is the ick. Another issue is I an having a great deal of problems getting my PH up to where it needs to be. It is like 6ish where it needs to be around 7.5. I have tried ph up but it doesnt do anything. Other helpful things: I have a large catfish of some kind around 8 inches long, a molly, 2 of those see through catfish, 2 red sharks, a bala shark, a blue crawdad, a single glofish, 3 silver dollars. A 46 gallon tank. I did a water change after my pictus' died but the water conditions remain the same, in addition to a partial water change. I have a very sophisticated filter. Oh and I also vacumed the gravel the other day and put new carbon in it and cleaned the filters. No I did not take the media out. I used up a whole ph up bottle without a single change in the water.(OF COURSE, NOT ALL AT ONCE) Should I be turning off the filter so it wont filter it out? Are there any diseases they might have, or parasites?

That totally sucks, sorry to hear about that. My guess is it was the crawdad. I don't think it was water chemistry because you seem to know what you're talking about. My first guess was the Bala shark, since they get big, but from what I was reading it doesn't seem to be the shark. Although, I do know that many schooling fish get nippy when not with others like them. Since the Bala shark is a schooling fish, it may have attacked out of anxiety.

ph for most fish is 7.0 (neutral) but most can live and thrive in a wide range. It is best not to mess with PH too much if at all because that will stress them more than the ph.

Filter... No, if you have an established tank you shouldn't leave the filter off as it will kill of the benificial bacteria colonies that help break down the bad ones.

From what you described it sounds like tank mate problems more than disease or parasites but you may want to look online for the actual symptoms for each fish and see if there is anything that is being missed.

Aquarium salt is good to prevent disease and parasites as well as help promote healing. However if you have a crawdad that couldn't handle it maybe a different tank for him or the others with the salt. It does help if done right.

Sorry you lost them. I love my fish and it's so hard to lose them. Best of luck.

idk y they are dieing but bala sharks get a foot long and you need to have LEAST 3 of them (they are schooling) so take him back, also you cant have more than one shark in a tank (they will kill each other, i know cuz i have a red tailed shark) so you need to take one of them back too. so sorry for ur dying fishies but i just dont know. its prob the catfish, i had aggression probs with mine too, separate him and see how things go. good luck
