My fish are dying! 4 in one day, help...?

I have no idea what happened. I will list the things that I think might help.

-I recently moved back home for the holidays. When I got home, I got a new tank. Its bigger than the one I had before.

-We live out in the country, and thus have well-water.

-I added 4 neon tetras to the tank from walmart. I had a betta from petsmart and 2 fancy guppies from petsmart. (betta and guppies I had for almost 4 months, guppies... 2 weeks) they got along great, none of them fighted.

-I noticed 2 days ago that my betta was just chilling in the shelter more.

-The water was 78 degrees.

-I have a filter

-When the betta died, his body was colorless, his fins were bland, and kind of chopped up looking. He floated mouth first around the tank and then kinda sideways.

-When the neon tetras died, 1 sunk and 2 floated to the top.

I still have the 2 guppies and 1 neon tetra alive. The guppies look like their tails are shredding too, is it tail rot? this is so random. I know it has to be the water quality or something, seeing as 4 died all on the same day. We live out in the country, so there is only walmart as a fish-supply store.

Get a water testing kit to test the pH, etc. You probably should have cycled the tank before adding the fish.

i no its hard keeping fish.my fish all died i bot 5 platys 2 neon tetras 3 glo light tetras and 5 guppies and even a pleco and they all ended up dying.i don't no why either.maybe when ur betta died it poisned the water.every time a fish dies you should do a 100 % water change.bacause the water can be infected.

You did a lot of things wrong:
You don't know (or didn't list) your water properties
You added fish to a brand new tank without completing the cycle
You added too many fish at once
You didn't mention anything about conditioning the water
Shredded tails would usually indicate either fighting or fin rot.
