I live in north-west suburban Chicago-land area and I am planting my first vegetable garden. i am already very concerned because i think it may be too late in the season to be sowing in seeds outdoors. I think, from the light research i have done, that in order for this to be a successful project i should have started planting indoors a few months ago. Regardless that it is late in the season i have everything planned out. i have a detailed plan of what crops are going where and all the dimensions of each individual bed. in total the plot of land i sectioned off is 18.5 feet wide by 11.5 long. i have already started a compost to spread over the cultivated soil that will be where my garden is. i plan on growing everything in raised beds with fencing around each bed as well as flowers. although i have a good idea of what the garden will look like, as i said before, i think i might be too late, last frost is right around may 1st. another concern/question i have is in regards to tomato and pepper plants. i have everything going in rows but i understand that tomatoes and peppers need support as they grow very tall. what would be the best way to support my rows of tomatoes and peppers? lastly i've been told growing potatoes from seeds is almost unheard of. is it possible and if not whats the best way and where can i find seed potatoes?
