My first instore experience with Cricket :(

Well, the housing on my T720 finally cracked (where you open the phone). So, I decided that i'd just buy a phone from the cricket store. I was going to get a kyocera candid.

So, I tell the lady that's what I want. She then tells me that it will be $200. Seeing as how i'm already a cricket customer, I DO NOT qualify for the instant rebate on the phone. I DO NOT qualify for the free activation nor the first month free. (The promotion was $119 after instant rebate)

I was super upset. I left the store and bought another Ebay phone. Kyocera Soho for $50.

I guess I just don't understand why i'm being penalized for already being a cricket customer. This would be the 1st phone that i'd bought from a cricket store. I've also paid all of my bills on time (direct debit), have the highest plan available, also the 411 service, also about $30 in travel time that I haven't used yet.

Though cricket's plans are reasonable, I definitely got better customer service, and better phone deals being a cingular go phone customer.

What market are you in? The general market promotion right now is for a $50 Mail in rebate on that phone for new acvtivations... That aside, I'm pretty sure you will always find better deals on any carrier when activating new lines, than when upgrading your phone.. And you said it best... you get unlimited service for $45 a month, with no contract, you can cancel any time. Very simply Cricket does not subsidize very much of the phone cost ever! They have a few promotions to attract new customers, and if you've had your account for more than a year a direct store will give you some kind of equipment discount instant in the store (it varies by region)...
Also if you really want to try to work them, figure out what the retention phone nuraber is... if you can get that nuraber it pretty much goes like this:
Cricket Customer:"My phone broke and I want the same deal as a new customer on another phone or I'm going to cancel."
Retentions:"Done."

The only problem is I don't know what that nuraber is and you have to go through all the different levels of customer service over the phone before they give it to you. It goes direct into the corporate office in San Diego, and they pretty much will give you the world to keep you as a customer.

Like what "simple3" said. Cricket doesn't have a contract so they don't make money off the price of the phone. you might get like $30 instant discount instore, and thats if they are nice and you've been with us (thats right us) for awhile :)

crciket customer service is horrible, i actually part own a couple of cricket authorized dealer locations, and all the customers do is pour in and complain about bad customer service issues either over the phone, or at a corporate location, and the deals are ********, get out of pre pay man and save some headache.
