My first experience with Harley's Customer Care Department Not Good!

Since when a standard HD seat is considered "special order" by a HD dealer? I would expect a reputable dealer to have several HD seats in stock that I could mount on my bike and sit on before buying, at least the most popular ones.
At any rate, I wouldn't pay 100% upfront for a standard HD seat ordered by a dealer. 100% upfront for a custom seat from the HD custom seat program, yes, but not for a standard seat.

I bought lots of Kuryakyn accessories for my bike from a local shop (M&M Leather in Greensburg PA) and their policy is 20% when ordering and the balance when I pick it up.
Oh, by the way, they sell all Kuryakyn stuff at 20% off.

My dealer doesn't require me to pay up front when I order accessories,I always offer and they say it's not necessary.I have purchased a new Wide Glide the Ultra Classic and several thousands of dollars worth of accessories in the last year.I would hope they consider me a good customer.

And they are reluctant to get you the seat that should have came with the bike? What kind of guys are running this shop?? I find it difficult to believe that these knuckleheads would let a $$ line like that vanish over something that seems so miniscule in the grand scheme of things

I wonder how they treat the guy who just buys a sticker for his lid

coulda been someone who took the bike for a test drive and swapped the seat ... hey i think i know who it was !

hope this works out ok , and the dealer makes it right

Based on the production dates, I'd bet that's why the OP has the 'wrong' seat in the first place. I feel that the dealer should have ordered the correct seat immediately when he first brought it to their attention; it's pretty clear cut what the dates on the seats are and what the H-D memo states as to the production change.

People wouldn't come here to rant if Harley or the selling dealer took care of the customer upfront. Part of what we pay for upfront when you buy a Harley at the prices that we pay is 'Customer Service'. I'm using the perspective that his bike was built 'months' after the running change, so someone at that dealer knows all too well why the 'wrong' seat is on there. Like a salesperson and the salesmanager...

As another example, I had to pay $299 plus tax, to replace the original OEM seat on my '0-10 Ultra to a Reduced Reach. My Reduced Reach is the same height as the newly revised seat that come as stock now, so it cost me $300 out of my pocket that other buyers get for free because they happened to buy at a later date. Okay, I bought mine before the production change, so I never said a word to the dealer or Harley, but it still doesn't seem right to me, as I didn't make the initial mistake, Harley did, but I had to pay to rectify it.

Hopefully the dealer will make the seat change at no cost, and make you feel better about their store and the customer service they provide.

It was not really a "mistake" by Harley. The new Touring bikes have a different frame and the front wheels are bigger than the 08 models. (17" in 09, 18" in 10 and only 16" in 08).
Consequently, the guys who are, let's say, "vertically challenged", have a problem with the new bikes, but objectively, they already had a problem with the 08 models too.
Didn't you sit on the bike before buying it?
This being said, your dealer should have told you that you could buy the new "Low" stock seat for $150, cause that's what they've been offering it until end of April 2010, instead of letting you order a Reach seat for twice this price.

Okay, it may not have been an actual 'mistake', but the end result was with the new frame and larger front tire & wheel, the seat height was higher than the year before. (Seems like Harley should have known that long before the '09's were delivered to dealers, so that's why I called it a mistake.)

Clearly, people who sat the way they wanted on a '07 or '08 no longer sat that way on the '09, and they complained to the point that Harley did a running production change and went with a lower height seat, which, it turns out, is the same height as the original Reduced Reach seat. I paid $300 to get a seat that is the same height as the current stock seat, so it doesn't seem so 'reduced reach' anymore. Now, for 2011, Harley has introduced two new Reduced Reach seats, and the dealer says I can get one... it's just another $300.

I had similiar bun in with the MOCO customer service. Was because the dealer installed fuel guage that had led's in it went out one by one. They advised me that they could not do anything about it and the dealer would not do anything even though it was under warranty. I wrote a letter to Willie G and faxed one to his office. Got a call within hours from the MOCO and Willie G's office. They agreed to replace the guage and sent to the dealer for warranty. Really pissed the dealer off. All t his took me 6 months. I will never call the MOCO customer line again. Alyays do it in writing.
