I don't disagree with either of you, I'm sure those bikes are fun and much easier to learn on. But IMO the learning curve would be so fast that bike would be outgrown in the blink of an eye. (Just saw the 2007 torque - 18?!?!)
I know a girl who rides her friend on the back of her brand new R1...I've ridden with another girl who rips on a 749. I've started out on a 999S. Fine not everyone is the same, but that's precisely my point. My opinion is that, although not recommended per se, starting out on a big bike is okay if you take your time and do it right. (really growing INTO it) Mistakes are costly in both money and body, but I think it's okay if someone takes it all into account and pulls the trigger with full knowledge.
I'm encouraging the guy, not discouraging him.
