my first ducati???

I don't disagree with either of you, I'm sure those bikes are fun and much easier to learn on. But IMO the learning curve would be so fast that bike would be outgrown in the blink of an eye. (Just saw the 2007 torque - 18?!?!)

I know a girl who rides her friend on the back of her brand new R1...I've ridden with another girl who rips on a 749. I've started out on a 999S. Fine not everyone is the same, but that's precisely my point. My opinion is that, although not recommended per se, starting out on a big bike is okay if you take your time and do it right. (really growing INTO it) Mistakes are costly in both money and body, but I think it's okay if someone takes it all into account and pulls the trigger with full knowledge.

I'm encouraging the guy, not discouraging him.

Well said...and if I had to offer alternatives I'd say a Ducati 749 or a Triumph Daytona 695. Used or new, both offer plenty of street-worthiness as well as being great track machines.

I know I hear ya...and I think it's interesting that you still enjoy it! As much as I can't see it, I think it's cool. Like the guys on the 2-strokes at the track...not for me at all but I still like to see different things. Like the maniac who was passing me on a 1967 Bultaco on the track recently!

To each his own for sure...I just can't stand preaching. (not talking about you)

Great thead!! I am on the cusp of buying a 1098 after getting my M license and having a yz80 as a kid. I appreciate all the comments!

Von1098, where did you get those girls, and who did your custom work!??!? I like your clutch cover and the yellow trim on the wheels!!! cool!!! I am in chicago! I would love to ride with you once I get my yellow 1098!!!!

TIM

the 916 is a tough bike to tackle for a first bike. Go for a 600 for a year. You will love it. then move into a 999 or 1098. Both are way mor advanced than the 916.
Also, the 916 will break, the newer ducs will not.
I used to own a 996, awesome bike in its day, and a classic design. It is now outdated.

The girls were provided for the DRILL photo shoot. The trim I had a guy name Bruce do them and Yes they are painted on. PM me and let me know where in Chicago you're at. I let you know that you need not go anywhere, but MCC in Villa Park. The are cool and priced fair. I'm at 6500 miles, I'll sell you mine. No Waiting list.

PM? I live in lincoln park near the zoo. I have been up at chicago cycle talking to them. I have not made it to MCC yet. You want to sell?
