My first ducati,848 or 1198

This is my first ducati so i am in a pinch. I found a 08 848 for $12,800. They also have a 09 1198 for 16,500. I am going to have this bike for a while so should i spend the extra cash and upgrade or get a deal on the 848. Keep in mind i am 6'5"and 214 lbs, I may need the extra 34hp. My other thoughts are, get the 848 deal and in a couple years go for a S model, or just man up and go 1198 and be happy for a long time. Any thoughts would help since you guys have these models.
 
If you're having doubts about the power of an 848 vs the 1198,let me tell you get the 1198.
I have a 1098. Last week, while ducati was fixing/replacing my fan motor, they gave me a loaner 848. I drove it around for 2 hours. The 848 does have nice power, but being used to my 1098, it is noticeably LESS! This is noticeable during regular around the town driving and the engine note from my 1098 vs the 848 wasn't quite as nice/just not quite as barotone. If you plan on keeping your bike for a long time, buck up, get the 1198. If you don't you'll be always wondering if you were missing something

Yo Harv3179...... think we're missing an important piece here brother; what's your previous/ current scoots?
Without knowing that, I'm going with the 1198 (and not just because I bought one!) You have that right hand to "meter" the amount of horses hitting the pavement, and if your level-headed, with the funds to support....why not opt for the upgrade?
 
other scoots are: 78 kz 1000 ( pro street,big bore, lowered runs 10.60) 01 gsxr 750, 86 FJ1200 and my first was a hondamatic 750, thats right hondamatic. I looked at 1098 and they only had yellow, not my color, they could get a red one from chicago but it would be $14,100, i would rather just go a little more and get the 1198.
