Is is better to get married before basic training, or after ait during that two week leave?
Also, we would like to get married in May of next year, and this is when we calculated that he would be done with ait...it gives us more time to plan for the wedding, since he leaves for basic in early january of next year (plus we want an outdoors wedding and these next few months will be cold)......... but if we get married too close to when he moves to his first duty station, will that affect when I get to live with him on base?
Oh, and thanks for the answers so far...just thought future readers might want a little bit more detail.

yes its a good time because he will probably die make sure to take out the biggest life insurance policy you can afford.

Do you want to be included in his first steps into his military career? A fiance is about the same as a girlfriend in the eyes of the Army.

Go to the JoP and do a court house wedding before he leaves for basic and then plan for a 'real' wedding for his leave. It makes the process go so much smoother if he gets you in DEERs before he joins.

Leave can be canceled or not given at all. Do you want to run the risk of not having the wedding and have to pay for the move totally out of pocket? (The Army ships him to his first duty station, if you are not on the orders when they are cut, they Army will not pay for you to move after you are officially hitched.)

I know that you have grand plans for a wedding but you're in the Army now. Compromise is the key to surviving this life. If you can't roll with the punches and change plans at the drop of a hat you are going to have a lot of ulcers.

Before.

If you're already set on getting married and that's what you both want, then its much better before. If you get married before basic, you'll get all the benefits of being married to a member of the military. You'll be covered in insurance, housing allowance, plus you'll get to see the world.

Now keep in mind that you shouldn't get married for these reasons. You need love most of all. But if you two are planning on it, do it before.

no you will end up cheating on him, dont break his heart
you are going to break his heart anyways
