Hello everyone. My fiance and I were at walmart around 6 months ago. My son had a teddy bear and we left the store forgetting about it being in the cart. So we got "caught" , and we were trying to explain to them that we didnt mean to do that...but anyway, and we were both put on probation and such from the courts. Well my fiance has been trying to find a job. And since then he could not find a job, he could not pay the $600 in probation and court fees, which turned into a warrent. Well, today he got arrested. I am so upset, and scared. but anyways, my question is, this is his first thing getting into trouble with the law, his bond is $2,000 and its a misdemeador. The police that I talked with said that the judge will most likely let him out tomorrow on his own ROR. If anyone of you know what you think might happen, please tell me. I am so sad and scared!!!!

Thank you all and God Bless.

The officer is not going to take your word. It is like a lady that just finished buying some grapes and tells the officer she was over charged by the vendor for a lb of grapes not knowing she has ate some already. Some stores have alarms in the door ways that go off when the product hasn't been scanned. I worked in security for a number of years and I sent them back because these things can happen. He is going to be release but the damage has already been done. It is hard as it is in this economy.

You shouldn't have defaulted on payment. It's always better to be up front and explain you can't come up with the money. Get a loan or something. Hoping it will go away won't make it any better.

if you explain to the judge like you have on "answers" then they are not going to do much. don't be ashamed to tell the judge if you are in a financial bind because if you are then they should be able to waive any fees. I live in California and here if you get caught shoplifting a second time then it is "petty theft with a prior" which is a felony.

The police are probably right. I know jobs are not easy right now, but if he wants a job he will even work at anything. Fast food restaurants are almost always hiring. And right now I don't think he has any option but to take whatever he can find. Trust me it is best he just get something and start paying those fines, it will keep adding up each time he goes to court.
