My father in law ignores me and my mother in law is critical of me...what's that about?

For example, for fathers day I emailed with sentiments, signed the whole family. FIL writes back a thank you directed only to spouse. Or a couple weeks ago, my spouse said that my inlaws invited us to a baseball game. Then on the day of, MIL wants to bow out, and has to be convinced to come in the name of a couple's day out (us and them). At the end of what I tried to think of as a charming visit, (even though FIL said nothing to me), FIL announces that he didn't think I was coming...even though my spouse expressly said otherwise. What's going on here?!
