My eye is producing mucus and crust?

Today I have noticed that my left eye has been producing crust. I would pick it out then some mucus would appear, then after a period of time some more crust. The crust forms at the side of my eye closest to my nose and the mucus forms at the other end as well as the same end. This has never happened before... What is this? What has caused it?
I wear glasses
