Probably about 2 weeks for each step. I wasn't too "precise" about it, I just dropped the dose when I felt ready, that is, when I had no symptoms.

I'm off because they give me headaches.
I have pain in my stomach/esophagus a lot.
It helps if I don't eat a couple of hours before bed and if nobody's mad at me.

One last question Jane..My burning is more like I can feel hot acid inside rather than the tissue/stomach burning.I can feel a gush of acid.
Did u feel it that way too?I am assuming that since u were taking zantac 4 times a day ur symptoms of burning wouldnt have been as much as I am experiencing without the medicine(zantac).
I dont have pain or anything but only burning which is so annoying.
Your worRAB of encouragement mean a lot to me during this time..

Burning stomach is pretty normal after quitting PPI's. It should go away when your stomach acid production gets back to normal, but it might take a couple months.

Meanwhile, eat a bland diet, small frequent meals, and try using antaciRAB such as Tums or RolaiRAB to relieve it. If those don't work, try an H2 blocker such as Zantac. H2 blockers do some of the same things as PPI's, but they aren't as strong, so they make a good "step down" drug for people trying to quit PPI's.

If it doesn't seem to be subsiding, or if the pain becomes really severe, obviously get it checked out.
