I was dating a lovely guy, and we'd liked each other for ages previously. Unfortunately I had a lot of issues going on in my life and was an absolute nightmare to deal with. It got to the point where he simply had no choice but to break up with me.
It's been a week, and I've been going out, having fun, and trying to get on with my life as all those issues have now been resolved. He doesn't seem happy about this at all. He's sad that we're not spending time together (it's been a week...) and he feels I'm dismissive of him when he gets in contact.
Is he being unreasonable or does he want to get back together, now that he's seen how positive I am when my life isn't falling apart?
He has mentioned that it's a shame that we didn't work out when we have so much in common and he hasn't hidden the fact that he's unhappier without me.
Should I keep my distance and hope that it prompts him to ask me out - realising that I'm not going to behave like his girlfriend, unless I'm his girlfriend? Or should I be good mates with him, and swallow my feelings, given that hanging out with him would simply make me grow even fonder of him?
