My Electric start doesn't work too well on my dirt bike?

Hi, I have a Yamaha TTR125 2006, and sometimes when I start it with the electric start, It would catch the motor for a second, then begin free spinning without the motor. Is the starter bad? Help
It sometimes stick... as in when I kick start it,I can hear the starter motor kicking with it.
 
a few things maybe the stater ring is worn the dog on your stater motor is worn or sticking try washing the dog of with petrol first
