My E70-2 has a dead pixel; is this common, or should I exchange it?

Title says it all. Just got myself a brand new Nokia E70-2 from LetsTalk and there's a stinkin' pixel stuck/dead gray on it in the middle. Because of the comparatively small size of the E70's screen and the ridiculously (gorgeous) high resolution, I didn't notice it for a couple days. But now that I have, I'm pretty bummed out about it. It's one of those little niggling things that isn't going to have any "real" effect on the performance of the device but will annoy me every time that I see it. And given that I just inked a new contract, I'm going to be seeing it every day for the next two years.

What I'm wondering is if this sort of thing is common on Nokia E-series phones (or the E70, specifically). I just finished reading a thread saying that Nokias made in Finland were supposed to be generally higher quality devices than those built in other countries. This specific phone was made in Finland. If I exchange the phone with LetsTalk, I guess there's a pretty big probability that they won't send me another "made in Finland" phone, but then again if this one's got a dead pixel I don't really know how much the phone's production country really means to me. I definitely don't want to send it in to Nokia and get stuck with a refurb. I paid for a brand new E70 free of defects and that's what I'd like to get.

So, put yourself in my shoes. Would you guys try to get it replaced? Thanks!
 
Yeah if your not happy exchange it. Never had a dead pixel on a phone myself and i have had a lot so it aint that common so it would be extremely rare that you would get another would a dead pixel if you exchanged

The thing that's struck me as really bizarre is that everyone I've talked to about it has said "wow, I've never heard of a phone having a dead pixel before." The time between sending it off and getting a new one back is going to be tough to handle.
 
I had a dead pixel on my first 6230 and my first 6682. Think about it, they're lcd's, afterall. Dead pixels shouldn't be that big a deal, but yeah, exchange it, cause it's for sure annoying as piss.
 
Many retailers are starting to have a dead pixel policy, usually requiring a specific number before they will exchange. I know what you mean however, my 6620 had a red one that often bugged me. Eventually I stopped seeing it most the time unless I looked for it, even though it was in the middle of the screen.
 
Thought maybe I had a dead pixel also. Turned out to b a piece of dust stuck to the underside of the glass. I believe it came with it. Dust anyone??
 
Excerpt from the Q&A section of the users manual for the N73

"Q: Why do missing, discolored, or bright dots appear on the
screen every time I turn on my device?
A: This is a characteristic of this type of display. Some displays
may contain pixels or dots that remain on or off. This is
normal, not a fault."

There are 154,880 pixels on a E70, so for one to go shouldn't be That uncommon. (0.00065%)

I have personally had it on a S710a and a HTC Wizard, and have seen it on Many others.

I am surprized to hear you guys say you have never heard of it.

That quote from the manual is indeed talking about dead pixel, but I am sure they will exchange it anyways. SE had the same posted policy, but they echanged my S710 no problems.
 
There's a dead pixel on my N80. There are so many crammed into such a tiny display on the N80 though that it's hardly noticeable at all. Only on a totally white screen.
 
look at it this way, u go out and spend ?1000 on a HD LCD display for ur room, u open the box, plug it in and it has 1 dead pixel, id take it right back and get a refund or exchange, at the end of the day a dead pixel is a defect because it shouldnt be there!!
 
I think you'll find that LCD panels are subject to certain classifications. A Class 1 display for example, would not be allowed to have any dead or stuck pixels. So with a class 1 display, a single dead/stuck pixel would allow you to claim it was faulty and have it replaced. Very few LCD displays are class 1 as it really pushes up the cost a lot. Most LCD displays are class 2, which allows a certain number of pixel defects before the display is classified as faulty (although I can't remember how many faults, and it varies depending on the total number of pixels in the display, and where the faults are located). At a guess, LCDs in mobile phones are likely to be class 2, meaning 1 stuck/dead pixel does not make the handset faulty, and the manufacturer is unlikely to be under any obligation to replace the unit. They might, however, replace it as a gesture of goodwill.
 
Yes, exactly. It is the same for all electronics (TV's, Phones, Cameras, etc) dead pixels below a certain level are considered "normal" but will usually be replaced, as you said, as a gesture of goodwill.
 
I too got my E70-2 from letstalk...have a dead pixel anytime the color is dark, say, brown or black. This, combined with the horrible voice quality, is all the reason I need to send this phone straight back.
 
Christ, what the hell. I sent my E70-2 back to LetsTalk and ordered one from Buy.com; arrives today and what do I find? Two dead pixels in the middle of the screen and painfully obvious on a dark background. Both E70-2's have been "Made In Finland" phones -- quality control my balls.

Sending this one back too. Effing enraging.
 
Yeah well, it makes me (and probably many others) an unhappy customer. Maybe I'm asking too much, but when I spend $400 on a cell phone I expect it to be perfect.
 
Yeah, I wouldn't be happy either even though the manufacturers state that this is "normal". I think they do that so they don't have to replace goods!

In any case, I guess I've been lucky thus far with all the cell phones, TV's, PSP's , etc that I've purchased as I haven't had a dead pixel. At least until now with my new e70 from Let's Talk. I believe I have 1 dead or bright pixel. You can only see it on a dark background. It's not too annoying and really can't be seen so I'll live with it. Not quite sure what that says about QC for the e70 but if many people have dead pixels then it's a flaw IMO.
