My dog needs a groom but we cant afford it?

Just keep them clean and brushed, regularly take a brush through their hair, if done properly this willprevent matts from forming and help keep their need to visit a profesional down.

One thing you can look in to is learning to do the grooming your self, there are many groomers who would be happy to show you how to groom your dog, so this one off cost could be well worth it.

Cheap clippers will work for just your dog, but make sure you look in to how to clip them properly, if you want the breed cut it would require more then just a puppy cut.

Also, I urge you to think about the grooming requirements before you purchase or adopt a dog in the future, as part of your animals wellbeing grooming is a basic need, and neglecting it is cruel. It is possible to take care of grooming your self as an owner, but this is something you should look in to before getting the dog, as it could be time consuming and you should be able to schedule these things for your dog.

Ask the groomer what you can do for them. My vet used to cut my dogs nails and I baked her peanut butter cookies. She would charge me half for shots and the rest I baked for her staff for the next 4 fridays. Anyone in a service industry will often trade with you. I trade with doctors, hair dresser's, vets, landscapers, and contractors, you just have to ask. Maybe you could hang drywall, paint, lay tile, print some thing off of your computer for them, bake, whatever you are good at. Maybe you could babysit for them, or something. You just have to ask.

Do it yourself?

Purchase some inexpensive dog shampoo.
Bathe the dog either outside (if weather is warm enough) or in a bathtub, or laundry tub depending on the size of the dog.

Brushes can run fairly cheap as well - $8 or so.
Purchase a brush and go to work on the coat.

If he needs to be trimmed, you may want to consult somebody who knows what they are doing before attempting it yourself. Be careful not to hurt the dog.

If you can't afford to have the dog groomed, why did you buy a dog that needs grooming.

You don't have any option other than to find the money to pay for a groomer before your dog gets into a painful matted mess.

You can't afford it?!?!
Why did you get a dog that needs grooming if you knew you couldn't afford it?

Anyway, just do the grooming by yourself.
Get a brush, Shampoo, Pedi Paws (( Nail Clippers , works better than metal ones and is safe to use on your dog)), any thing else you would like to get....
Directions:
#1. Put your dog in your tub. #2. Close your bathroom door (( dogs can jump out and then go out)) #3. Apply the dog shampoo on your dog. #4. Lather on. #5. Get your dog out of tub. #6. Dry your dog off and brush hair gently. #7. Take your Pedi Paws and follow directions it came with.
That's all I can think that will help you.
And all of those things that I listed to buy costs WAY less than to get your dog groomed.

Give it a bath in your tub. If it has fleas, use blue dawn dish detergent.
Cut big knots out with scissors, and brush with regular hair brush and comb. If you can afford it, walmart has clippers/sheers for $20-30.

Good luck

Sell your computer, turn off internet, then you might have enough to groom your dog.
I am sorry if I have offended you, but when you get a dog that needs to have continuous grooming, you just can't say I can't afford it. When you own a dog you must work grooming and such in to your budget.
But here are a few suggestions, brush dog thoroughly if dog is badly matted you may need to suck it up and get money for grooming somewhere. if not matted bathe him in dog shampoo and towel dry when he is dry brush again .
But start now putting pennies aside for dog grooming or think about re homing him to some one who can afford to take care of him properly.
