My dog knows that it has to go outdoors to potty, but when I let him outside alone he just sits at the door.?

Once I step outside and start walking on the grass he will follow me and then he will find a place to do his business. Is there any ways I can teach him to go potty by himself when I let him out instead of just sitting at the door and waiting for me to walk him to a place?

I always go out with mine. It gives me a break and an opportunity to take in some welcomed fresh air, we are part of the earth and it's important to be in touch with it on a regular bases - it's good for the soul. It also gives me a chance to monitor what the dogs produce. They won't tell me if they found worms in their stool or their urine was a bit dark, so I have to do that. (humor) And even though they're well house broken, I still enjoy telling them they did a good job.
