I have a 10 month old collie/king charles mix dog, and we live out in the country. Recently I have heard from neighbours that my dog, and our neighbours dog who is a 3 year old retriever, are starting to wander around the roads. They seem to be getting the way out of traffic (the roads we live on are narrow, one car only roads and arent very busy) but it is still a worry.
The thing that worries me most is that it is coming into lambing season and I am very afraid they will hurt a lamb, or get shot/poisoned by a farmer who sees him around his sheep.

I suppose I have two questions
1) Will a collie/king charles pup attack a lamb?
2) How do I get him to stay around my house?

We have a very big garden and a huge field behind our hosue with no animals in it to run about in, and I really dont want to lock him up!! I also dont really have the money to fork out for one of those electric collars!
Also, my dog is a male, and ive heard getting him neutered will stop him roaming, but will he still roam if the other dog is not neutered, as I have offered to pay for my neighbours dog to have the operation( as I am eligable to get it done for £15).
Please please please help, as I love my dog and do not want to have to give him away or let him get killed by a farmer!!!
Please help!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, just to add, to Rayven, who told me to stop leaving my dog outside unsupervised...what am I supposed to do? Everyone says its cruel to have a dog inside a house 24/7, and now its cruel to let him run around outside! Please make up your mind.
I asked for advice, not a telling off!
Thank you!!

well getting him fixed will help alot but the other thing you might wanna try is walking him ove rand over again around the perimiter of your property.... and i mean over and over and over again. then when you let him out....go out with him...if he goes off the property go get him let him know hes in trouble then walk him around the property perimity again and again till he gets it! if he still doesnt get it...when he goes off the property bring him back walk him around the property then tie him up for a little bit on a long rope with water of course... but walking the perimiter and letting him pee as he goes will help him want to stay there , let him know thats as far as he can go and will help him want to protect the area...as far as if he will attack farm animals...i dont beleive its typically in their nature but i cant say for sure a dog is a dog and their for always a little unprodictable good luck with your pup!

Hells teeth, why did a neighbour need to tell your that your dog is roaming, get real?. You do not need an electric collar, just common sense.

I have had sixteen dogs over the years and they have never roamed. I wonder if it was because they lived in the house, were taken for long walks and had a fence around the garden. Yes it is cruel to keep a dog in the house for twenty four hours. Try taking your dog for long walks and putting a fence around your garden.

Neither Lassie or Rin Tin Tin could resist roaming if they were left outside in an unfenced garden and they would also chase a lamb and probably get shot.

Be a responsible owner and make safe provisions for your dog.

your dog needs a fenced off area for exercise, not the run of where ever he likes.
no good is going to come of your dog roaming free, either the farmer is going to get him, you will be reported for being irresponsible or your dog is going to get knocked down by a car. be a responsible dog owner please.
