My dog has some weird symptoms...Can dogs have periods?

My dogs private area is swollen and it leaks blood. She also stinks more than normal. Is it normal for the thing to swell?

Of course dogs have periods, they have ovaries and those ovaries release eggs too. How else would they get pregnant with no egg?

Dogs don't have periods, they have heat cycles. There is blood involved but the whole thing is different. It is time to keep your dog away from all male dogs until you can have her spayed. It would have been better for her health and longevity if you'd had her spayed before her first heat cycle but you can still have it done.

Your dog is probably in heat. Is your dog fixed. She will bleed twice a year abouts if she is not fixed

Sounds like your dog is in HEAT or SEASON. Something like a period. Dogs usually go into heat every six months, some can go as often and every 4 months. Have her spayed, this will happen at least twice a year for 21 days each time. KEEP HER AWAY FROM ALL MALE DOGS BIG OR SMALL.

my pitbull had the same thing because we did not spay her.....all we did was gave her some old underware so it wont leak on the ground

If she isnt spayed then shes in heat which will make her swollen and bloody

If she is a non-spayed female, yes she will have periods, three per year I believe. You can get little diapers for her so she does not stain your furniture or carpeting during this time.

If she is a spayed female, I think she should see a vet, it could be a sign of internal bleeding which can be life threatening.

if your dog is a girl and is not fixed, then yes she will have her period but not as often as people. Just twice a year i think.

Female dogs that aren't spayed do have something like a period. You can have her spayed and it won't happen anymore.
