My dog has a shallow wound on his neck and he keeps scratching it and making...

...it worse anything we can do? My dog has a shallow, circular wound on his neck caused by a family member's inexpierience with dog clippers. It is not a life threatening cut, more like a medium sized clipper burn. However, it is causing him some pain and irratation so we brought him to to the vet. We use the medication prescribed and everytime it scabs and gets better, the dog scratches it and makes it worse and sometimes bloody. It has scabbed over so im guessing it is more itchy than anything. Is there anything I can put on him to prevent him from scratching, like a collar or something? And is it ok to disinfect with iodine? And I would like to add that the injury was a mistake and we have thrown the clipper away and we leave it to the grooming proffesionals from now on!

I would not apply anything on him before contacting the vet first, as it could infect the wound/irritate the dog's wound more. If anything, I would go back to the vet & explain to them that he keeps on scratching. The vet might then give him a collar!

you can try the cone ( e-collar) depending on where the injury is
I use trio;e antibiotic a few times a day this will keep it moist and also have the antibiotic for the injury
you can also get a dogie boots so he can't use the nails

The vet can give you an e-collar (lampshade/cone collar) to keep him from getting to it.

It's fine to clean it with Betadine. There's also a good product called Dy's Liquid Bandage that helps cuts heal; some vets carry it, or you can get it online.

call any vet place and ask to buy an Elizabethan collar. you can use gauze to tie it on but not to tight. Petco or other pet stores might carry them also. but the vet will definitely have one.
