My dog cries or whines whenever I leave a room?

My dog is six years old, and we have never had a problem with him. We got him from a pet shop and so he never had any problems with previous owners or being taken from his mother to early. We have always had him with us in and around the house, always following us, but since our cat has started peeing in parts of the house we have had to have him in a crate, and we put baby gates up in the kitchen so the dog is in the kitchen the whole time, so the house doesn't get dirty either. We have let him in and out of the kitchen to run around and he has slept in my room with me. But other than that, he is usually in there. But for the past month all he does is whine, whenever me or my mom is not in the room, like at night, it takes 30 minutes just for us to stop hearing him whine. But when we are trying to fall asleep it's really annoying, and I want to just bring him into my room. Also even if I am in a room he will do this, for my mom. I think it is an attachment disorder. What do you think?
We keep him in the kitchen not to be cruel but to keep the house clean, we are trying to keep the carpets clean because we are trying to sell our house.

You're dog does not have seperation anxiety. Seperation anxiety is a psychological disorder where the dog goes into full blown panic attacks when left alone.

You're dog is just lonely. Dogs are pack animals and need to be WITH their pack. Locking him in the kitchen by himself is not a kind thing to do, and he is very unhappy and wants to be with you.

I don't understand why you have started locking him away because the CAT pees on things.
