my dish on Hydro Pole?

Hi,

I was just wondering if I can put my dish on the Hydro Pole instead of having it on my house...just cuz it looks kinda ugly on the house...

right now its sitting on a brick just waiting to be put up there

So, I just want to know if anyone knows if this is ok or not.
Will Hydro knock it off? Will they fine me?

any info would be great

At best, you can loose the dish, fines are not out of the question. People that want access to the poles have to pay for it and I can't see Hydro allowing a dish to be mounted to the pole. It won't be hard for someone to trace where the cable goes. By drilling into the pole, you could be charged with vandalism or destruction of private property.
 
They say never install the dish near a power line... and you want to install it on a power pole? ? If the dish ever came in contact with a power line you could be killed,,, the TV will explode and your home will burn to the ground. Insurance will laugh at you when you ask them to pay.
 
Why not get your own (smaller) pole and a bucket of cement and stick your dish on that? Other threads have outlined this and it seems to be stable and works well.
 
I've had lots of clients (espacially on Military bases) installed the way Sensual Poet describes. It seems the best way to do it whithout ahaving the dish on the house, and less risky that the hydro pole

The short answer is no. The long answer is, it is illegal and contravenes electrical codes in most areas of Canada. No unauthorized services are allowed on hydro poles. Utilities also charge rent for use of the pole when use is authorized.

A standard steel fence post works as does any well secured structure.
 
Besides the legal and code issues, I'm sure the linesman climbing the pole would be happy to put his boot cleats through your LNB on his way up LOL
 
save some time/money and buy a patio stone, and bolt it to that
unless the cement bucket is easier
 
Really? Does Toronto Hydro charge Rogers cable for each and every pole it uses in the city? The city should have no budget problems at all then.
 
Yes, Toronto Hydro does, in fact, charge Rogers for every pole it strings cable on.
 
He actually wouldn't because the linesman would tear take it down and it would be on the ground first. I worked linecrew for 2 summers with Ontario Hydro and got a much better appreciation for the dangers of hidden nails or tacks from posters on lines. Anything on the pole that prevents the spike from going into the wood can send a linesman for a ride down the pole and they have zippo tolerance for any unauthorized junk on poles.
 
I would agree whole heartedly, there should be NOTHING on a pole that is not approved in advance.

I worked for Rogers, many moons ago and took down several Washing Lines.
