My daughter was not allowed to eat lunch Friday at school?

My daughter has been the target of verbal abuse from her science teacher at school. This teacher screams, yells.. to a point where my daughter and several of her friends are afraid of this woman for her angry outbursts during class. She has even said that this class is not as smart as 8th graders (they are 6th grade). She got angry at the abuse Friday, and told the teacher off. No swearing, just a general stuff it sort of comment. She has now been suspended for 3 days, and was kept in the office at School all afternoon, not even allowed to eat her lunch as she was called from the lunchroom just after being allowed to try and eat by the principal who never did allow her the chance to have lunch. She came home with her lunch untouched in her lunch box and was sick with a headache from having gone from 5:30 am when she had breakfast (the bus comes to pick up for school at 6:40 am) to when she got home Friday afternoon at 3:30 pm. I am enraged. This seems like a serious case of abuse to me and I am strongly considering filing a complaint with the police Monday if I do not get resolution to this issue through the Superintendent's office. Do I have grounds to file a complaint with the police and have this principal charged with abusing my 11 year old daughter for making her go 10 hours with nothing to eat?
To answer Mark:

My husband insisted that we give the Superintendent office one chance to reach a satisfactory resolution to this before filing charges with the police.

Personally.. I want to go unleash some stress and anger on this Principal and get in a little practice at tae kwan do while I'm in the process.

The teacher in question is one we had issues with when our son was in her class, also verbal abuse. I still have the documents from dealing with her 3 years ago and it is my feeling that she is targeting our daughter now because of past history. Other parents have also expressed concerns with her habit of screaming at her students and the school has done nothing. If I end up at the police station Monday filing charges.. I'm filing charges on her as well as the principal.
