My cell phone has bad reception. Should I buy another one or change provider?

I have a prepaid cell phone from Virgin Mobile. It has bad reception. Should I buy another cell phone from Virgin Mobile or change provider?

According to their website, Virgin Mobile should have good coverage in Los Angeles, CA where I live. So what gives?
thinking of switching over to t-mobile.
