I would suggest putting wire on your tree they dont like to step on wire. This could also be a sickness of some kind make sure to check with your vet to see if anything is medically wrong with him. Make sure tokeep the litter box accessable. when he pee's put him in the litter box and make sure hes using it so he can associate this with going to the bathroom.

My cat does that too, although it's because of his kidney failure. Have your cat checked out by your vet to see if you cat is healthy and not sick. Sometimes, a cat will pee outside of the litterbox because it's too filthy for it. So make sure you clean it out every day or every other day.

Is he fixed? And are you sure he is peeing and not spraying ? When is the last time he was seen by a vet? If he is peeing it could be a UTI . If he is not fixed he most likely spraying . Most vets will tell you once they start spraying their is a good chance they will keep spraying even after they have been fixed. Other wise what I have done with every cat I have ever owned is : every half hour I take them to their box and stand there , if they try to get out I put them back in the box ,waite about 10 min then let them go . It takes about 1 week and is very time consuming , but it has always worked for me. Good luck -ski-

Sounds like he is marking his territory. Do you have him fixed yet? If not I suggest that. This can help him to stop.
