I've noticed lately that my cat has developed scabs in a multiple places, along her spine, the base of her neck, and even under her chin. She has also spent more time grooming herself than she used to. She is about nine years old, small for her age, and is technically an outdoor cat but she has been staying inside more than she used to too, but that could be because of the weather. I don't think fleas are the cause because I haven't seen any nor do any of my other cats show any signs of having fleas or the same reaction as her and she has been eating the same brand of dry cat food for a few years now.
