My cat gags when food falls in the floor...weird or not?

Alright, I've never had a cat before in my life, but I took this one in after my friend told me it was too sick for her to take care of and she was going to have to have it put down. Thing was tiny and had an infected eye when I got him, and now he's a healthy one-eyed cat (had to be surgically removed).

Anyway. Basically, I can put cat food down for him and he's fine. The other day I tossed him a piece of turkey from my sandwich (which I'm not supposed to do I know, but it fell in the floor and I wasn't going to eat it), and as soon as he sniffed it, he gagged. He didn't throw up, and I just thought he didn't like turkey, but then he ate the turkey.

Later that night I was making something with sliced bananas, cat by my side of course because he never leaves me alone, and I knocked one in the floor on accident. As soon as it hit the ground, the cat gagged. He didn't try to eat the banana, but then I was wondering what this was all about. I dropped a teaspoon of his wet cat food on the tile floor, same reaction!

It seems weird to me. Now, he just was at the vet about 2 weeks ago and was checked with a clean bill of health, and he's been doing it before that check-up; I just hadn't witnessed enough to actually ask, so is there anything really wrong with the cat?

I was thinking that he possibly just has a weak stomach. I know when I was younger the stupidest things used to make me sick to my stomach, and sometimes hearing food splat on the floor (like the banana) would make ME sick...I've just haven't found anything really about that.
