My cat does this weird spit thing with her mouth...?

It's kind of hard to explain but she'll start opening and closing her mouth and kind of sticking her tongue really quick over and over and it makes a spitty sound and spit starts coming out of her mouth and sometimes it even starts dripping out of her mouth onto the floor. She'll usually just do it for a few minutes and I just try to get her to drink something and ill clean the spit off her chin cause I don't know what else to do. She's been doing it maybe once a month or so ever since I got her (about 8 monthes ago). I was just wondering if anyone knew what it was and if my kitty is okay.
 
sometimes its a sign they are going to be sick.. but they usually do that when they are washing aswell..
i think she is fine though :)
