my car starts fine first time. if i shut it off it just clicks...?

i have a 1993 ford thunderbird that has been having an issue. the first time i try to start it, it ALWAYS starts no problem. if i shut the engine off to say, go into a grocery store, i come back out, try to start it, and it does nothing but click. takes SEVERAL tries to get it to start (and alot of screaming and cursing). when that happens the lights and radio come on, and the battery gauge shows charge, but it simply wont start. does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
 
dirty battery cables or maybe a bad starter type into search box
how to clean battery cables
and or go hav e it tested most parts stores or shop do it for free
 
Well Id say its electrical,
maybe starter motor, or battery connections
when you get a spare hour or so take it to an auto electrician for a quick diagnosis.
