My car key won't turn all the way round to the ignition?

Last night the steering lock on my car was so tight and I ended up forcing the key too far and it felt like I had done some damage. The steering lock did undo and the car started. But this morning when I turn my key it goes to parts 1 and 2 - turns the battery on and enables me to put lights, radio on, etc but the key won't turn any further and get to the ignition part.
Is there any way I can sort this problem out without phoning for the AA?
