S steven a New member Jun 16, 2009 #1 Ok, my battery is dead on my car and I jumped it and it started fine. we took out the jumper cables and it died. My friend said I need and new alternator but I think I just need a new battery... Help plz

D David B New member Jun 16, 2009 #2 you need a new alternator, once the vehicle is running the alternator will keep it running, even without the presence of a battery
