My car heater isn't working and it's getting cold!!! How do I fix it?

I have a 2003 pontiac grand prix and my heater isn't working. A/C is fine and the blower/fan must be ok cause it blows air out, it's just really cold. I have started to do some basic maint. work on my car (brakes, etc.) to save money, but I don't know where to start on this one. The temp. is dropping in michigan and I need to figure this out soon before I freeze! Best answer will be awarded. Thanks!
 
Heater coil. Is there a wet spot, or has there been a wet spot anywhere in the front of the car? Mine leaked when it went. It was right under the passenger side portion of the dash board. Start with that. It's under $100 fix to do it yourself.
 
go to your library look for chilton or haynes books that match year and make of your car ,then look up heater core remove/replace BUT before that make Shure your rad is full and that there are no leeks look at heater hoses 2, one going to firewall and one coming from and connecting to radiator the other connects near the thermostat also you should replace thermostat 1st because its cheaper the can stick in the open position so the fluid never get warm enough to heat your interior now-a-days you can buy them to fail in the open position! When they fail in the closed position the car will overheat constantly not a good thing in the winter good luck
 
Could be several things.
The radiator could be clogged.
The heater core is clogged.
The vent door is not opening. This could be vaccuum, electric or mechanical.
The control valve on the heatcore could be stuck and not allowing hot water to flow through the heater core.
This valve can also be mechanical, vaccuum or electric.

Check your thermostat.
Check your coolant level.

I would make sure that the antifreeze level is full, if it is than your heater core is probably plugged you need to flush the system, you can do this your self or pay to have it done if you do it yourself buy a flushing chemical and follow the directions.
