...criminal damage.I? I have obtained quotes for the repair of the damage which amounts to £800.00. Could you possibly advise me where I go from here as regards my options for getting the car repaired. Do I get the damage repaired now and hope to re-coup the monies when the person has been convicted. Wait to see if the person is convicted. Or would I proceed through my insurance company even though I have a £200.00 excess? Many thanks.
 
Go through the insurance company. That's what you pay your premiums for.
If you get no joy there wait until the individual is found guilty then pursue him through the civil courts for your damages PLUS costs.
 
If the person is convicted, you then have to sue them in civil court and then you have to wait for them to pay you...your car may well be an antique by then! your best bet is to claim from your insurance, then sue the creep who damaged your car, including a claim for the excess you had to pay.
