My car is a '93 Ford Tempo. Its a piece of crap and I hate it. Lately its decided that it won't start. Now, this sucked because I was in a parking lot, but fortunately I had help. I kept turning the key to start my car, but it wouldn't turn over. Not even a little bit. There was nothing going on, just my seat belt light and some other light came on as well. We tried jumping the battery, thinking my battery might be dead. Absolutely nothing. We tried this a few more times before one of the guys got out a crow bar and stuck it somewhere under my hood (couldn't see where, or what on) then gave it a good hit. I tried it then, and poof. My car started right up. They said I may need a new starter, but.. my god. I'm not at all smart about this kind of thing. I am planning on going to NAPA and having a friend who has been going to auto school for near 4 years now.. put it in for me. Is it really my starter? How much might this cost me? Any other opinions on the matter? Please, help?
