Salmon have a tremendous overwhelming urge to spawn. They do notheing more than figure out ways to stay alive and produce massive amount of young. Sounds a bit fishy to me. they also have to get away from all the bears that like to eat them.

Swimming upriver allows the Salmon to spawn. They don't do it to die. Some are just unlucky enough to get caught by bears or skilled fishermen like you! LOL!
