My boyfriend is in jail for an unpaid fine.. has to see a grand jury for...

...something else... please read!? My bf had a warrant for an unpaid traffic fine of $750. he lost his job and fell behind on paying it and they put a warrant out. Well he was pulled over on 4th of July, and the cop asked his name (he was a passenger in the car) and he said his last name was ***cz. He was nervous & worried & said the last letter wrong. The cop couldnt find him so he asked again how to spell his name & my bf said sorry, its ***tz. And he found him right away, said he had a warrant... well they put a $1,000 warrant out for "lying to the cop about his name" and when I just called the jail they said he is seeing the judge Thursday for the $750 fine but the $1000 fine is pending a grand jury and he may be indicted. What does this mean? How serious is it? Will he go to jail for a long time for this...? They said I can get a bail bondsman & get him out, but if I do that will he still have to serve time when he goes back to jail?? If someone in law enforcement could answer these questions I would really appreciate it. I have a new baby at home and I'm really worried. It was just something stupid, he had a warrant for a traffic fine, nothing serious... he got nervous... and now he's facing a grand jury. Please help. :(
It's really not that serious... a traffic fine & he spelled his name wrong then spelled it right a minute later. They said theres no chance of him getting out any time soon, he's waiting for a grand jury. I thought that was for serious things! This is so ridiculous! Yes he deserves to pay his fines & anything else he is responsible for, but a grand jury for that...?! He's not a murderer, theif, rapist!...

Maybe you misunderstood them? The Grand Jury would not be involved in someone lying about their name... From what i know they deal with Murder charges and other federal crimes. If i were you i would call again and make sure you got all the information correct.
Have his mom call if she's around and they will give her more information than you since you are not married and have no legal right to know his information. Honestly if it was just a fine for a traffic ticket they would have already booked him and let him call for bail. Hope everything works out for you!
